there's something to be said about this trend of doing prelim hip screening on very young dogs and freaking out when they look kinda meh
there's a whole bunch of other somethings to be said about vets apparently bringing up FHO as an option based on those prelims??

seeing a post about the undertale orchestra concert and trying my best not to be a complete pedant about the orchestration and the difficulty of the piece in question. like sure it's not the easiest but it isn't particularly difficult and not the hardest there. also some of the orchestration kinda sucked but that's a wider problem with orchestrating video game music and the undertale concert generally did a good job given everything.

so far i'm happy with ring fit adventure - we'll see if i fall out of the habit of using it in a few weeks or whatever, but in this first week it's given me good workouts, with nice warm-ups and cooldowns, and i appreciate that it prompts me to stop working out after a bit so that i don't push myself too hard on one day and wear myself out too much to exercise for several days after

MCYT Rarepair Exchange: Overview and Rules
Tumblr media
We all have our guys we like to toss into the oven and bake to a crisp. We mix them up however we want, and throw in some variables for additional flavour. Unfortunately, sometimes not everyone gets your vision. Sometimes you’re the sole warrior of a nation made up of you and your three mutuals. Worry not, this event is here to save you! With the help of MCYT Rarepair Exchange, you can beam your most exotic of pairings straight into unsuspecting people’s heads. Beware though, the same fate will likely befall you!
TIMELINE December 7th - nominations and Discord open December 12th - sign ups open December 21st - nominations close December 24th 11:59pm GMT - sign ups close January 1st - all assignments sent February 10-16th - posting period February 16th 11:59pm GMT - posting period ends February 17-23rd - treating week
LINKS Discord: [link] Tagset: [link] Tag nomination form: CLOSED Collection: [link]
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Writing - a complete, standalone work, 1k+ words;
Art - one drawing considered ‘finished’ by the artist’s standards;
TAG NOMINATION RULES
Each person can nominate up to 20 relationship tags, both platonic “&” and romantic “/“ from any MCYT fandom. Tags with more than 2 people are allowed and encouraged.
For large fandoms (5k+ works on Ao3 as of Dec. 2024) your tag must have no more than 30 works with your tag included.
For small fandoms (-5k works in Ao3 as of Dec. 2024) your tag must have no more than 50 works with your tag included.
If your fandom has 200 or fewer works, mods will hear cases pleaded for any relationship tag that isn't the most popular/often used to be taken into consideration.
If your rarepair doesn’t exactly match the criteria but you believe it fits the spirit of the event, there is space in the nomination form for you to convince us why we should allow your tag into the tagset!
Event runners/moderators reserve the right to disqualify or allow any submissions that may not fit the criteria flawlessly. We will do our best to judge fairly without letting "popular"/"big" ships take priority in this event.
Adult/minor romantic relationships are not allowed in the event. Age of the character will be decided by age of the creator portraying the character during the majority of the SMP/series’ run. Mods reserve the right to disqualify any tag that they believe to be in violation of this rule. Minor/minor romantic relationships are allowed with the exception of characters considered to be extremely underage (ex. Yoghurt (DSMP) or QSMP eggs).
Canonical sibling or parent-child relationships may not be requested as romantic, but may be requested as platonic (ex. Jimmy and Lizzie in Empires SMP season one or the QSMP eggs with their caretakers/parents).
Further instructions regarding the nomination process are included in the form.
SIGN UP RULES
As per Tumblr, Ao3 and Discord TOS, you must be 13+ to participate.
Each participant must join the Discord server for ease of communication. If we cannot find you on Discord by the time the sign up period ends, your sign up will be deleted.
An Ao3 account is required to participate. [Here] is an instruction on how to make one if you don’t have one yet.
You must request and offer at least [5] relationship tags across at least [2] fandoms. You can request/offer up to 10 fandoms with 20 relationship tags per request/offer, for up to 200 possible tags total. Plenty of room!
You must either include your DNW (Do Not Wants) or state ‘DNW: N/A’ in each request box.
You must include at least one like (setting/AU/trope) or prompt in each request box.
You must include your Tumblr url in each request so your gifter knows who to address your gift to.
Please make sure the email attached to your account is one you check regularly, and one you are comfortable to share with the mods, as due to how Ao3 exchange system works, the mods will be able to see it.
If you are 18+, you may sign up for creating and/or receiving NSFW works. If someone under age 18 is found out to have signed up requesting or offering NSFW content, they will be kicked from this event and any upcoming ones.
You cannot sign up solely for creating/receiving NSFW works. You must include at least 1 SFW offer and request in your sign up.
NSFW and SFW offers/requests must be done in separate boxes. Example:  Request 1: GeminiTay/Smallishbeans (Life Series) - SFW request Request 2: GeminiTay/Smallishbeans (Life Series) - NSFW request
CREATION RULES
Your gift must focus on at least one of the requested relationships.
Unless your giftee explicitly requests otherwise, your gift may include non-requested relationships to make smaller appearances without overriding the requested tags.
You do not have to create a work for the ship you matched on with your giftee - if one of their other requests speaks to you, go for it!
Likewise, you do not have to create an NSFW work if you matched on an NSFW request/offer.
You must abide by your giftee’s DNW no matter what.
No AI created content is allowed.
POSTING
Your gift, meeting the requirements, must be posted to both Ao3 and Tumblr.
When posting to Tumblr, you must tag both your recipient and the event blog.
Dark, violent, or generally considered triggering topics must be tagged appropriately.
FAQ
What if my rarepair doesn’t have an Ao3 tag? Well, it’s time for it to get one! Feel free to request pairings without an official tag.
Is RPF allowed? This event will not be banning RPF works or tags, and will allow it as a fandom able to be nominated from. The nominations must still abide by the rules for other fandoms in this exchange. If you are unsure if your tag qualifies, please mention as such in the "plead your case" section of the form or send us an ask for clarification.
Are crossovers allowed? Crossovers are allowed as long as all tagged characters are from MCYT related fandoms! When nominating a crossover tag please specify which fandoms they are from. Example:  Joel | Smallishbeans (RPF) & Smallishbeans (Life Series) & Smallishbeans (Hermitcraft) (Crossover Fandom)
Considering the difficulty of deciding by which criteria the different fandoms should be judged, the mods reserve the right of disqualifying crossover nominations if we decide the pair is not considered rare.
Are Major Archive Warnings allowed? When signing up you can opt in into receiving/creating works including Main Character Death and Graphic Descriptions of Violence. No other Major Warnings are allowed.
What does NSFW include? On-screen sexual content or detailed elements of gore (anything that would require a rating higher than PG-13; anything you wouldn't feel comfortable showing to a 13 year old). NSFW is not allowed regarding characters that are considered minors.
What if I can’t finish on time? If you figure out you can’t finish your assignment on time, please contact event moderators as soon as possible! Depending on whether you just need a day or two more, or are completely unable to have your gift ready by the deadline, we will either give you an extension or send your assignment to Pinch Hits.
Can I create more than one gift? Of course! You’re only required to make one, but you can create as many gifts as you like. If you really want to make more than one gift, we suggest signing up for the Pinch Hitter role in Discord, or browsing requests in preparation for the treating week!
If you have any other questions or concerns, send us an ask!

Curtis told “Meet the Press” that people near retirement are safe from changes, but encouraged a discussion on “moving some of the variables around” for younger generations.
March 23, 2025, 7:49 AM MST / Updated March 23, 2025, 8:19 AM MST
By Megan Lebowitz
WASHINGTON — Sen. John Curtis, R-Utah, said on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” Sunday that politicians are “not being honest” when they say they won’t touch Social Security.
His comments come as President Donald Trump has said his administration was “not touching” Social Security and town hall attendees have expressed concerns about potential Social Security cuts. Elon Musk, who has spearheaded Department of Government Efficiency efforts to cut spending, has vocally criticized Social Security, prompting concerns from some Trump allies.
“We’re not being honest when we look people in the eye and say we’re not going to touch it. If we don’t touch it, it touches itself,” Curtis told “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker. “You know that, right? That’s not being honest with the American people, and I think that’s one of the things that makes them not trust us, when we say something that they just know is not true.”
Curtis said the government does not “need to impact the people that are in Social Security,” but instead can have a conversation about what Social Security looks like for younger generations that are further away from retirement, like 20- and 30-year-olds.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
✧˖*°࿐mana system
*ೃ༄mana pool
each individual's mana pool is a measurable resource—the internal energy reserve from which all magical abilities draw.
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ the size of the pool is determined by: ꪆৎ 𓂃 › aura size (bigger auras = more mana), ꪆৎ 𓂃 › aura tone (e.g., Iridescent tones expand mana pool beyond normal size; Adularescent tones may provide near-limitless microcasting or instant regeneration) ꪆৎ 𓂃 › training level (users can expand their capacity through rigorous control training and exposure).
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ tone modifiers: ꪆৎ 𓂃 › Metallic: +15–25% efficiency. neutral on capacity, but increase efficiency of spells (less mana used per cast) ꪆৎ 𓂃 › Iridescent: +20–50% bonus pool (varies by user control) ꪆৎ 𓂃 › Adularescent: variable—may regenerate over time, overflow, or break normal caps. Grants passive regen and immune to burnout once per day ꪆৎ 𓂃 › Lighter: +10% potential power, but -10% control precision ꪆৎ 𓂃 › Darker: +10% control precision, -5% total output
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ mana usage feels different per element. for example: ꪆৎ 𓂃 › lightning = sharp, rapid drain. ꪆৎ 𓂃 › earth = slow, heavy drain. ꪆৎ 𓂃 › psychic = steady trickle with sudden bursts.
*ೃ༄regeneration
𓂃 ࣪˖ ִֶָꪆৎ baseline: a full 8-hour rest cycle restores 100% mana. this process is tied to biological circadian rhythms.
𓂃 ࣪˖ ִֶָꪆৎ meditation: allows 20–40% partial regeneration over 1–2 hours, depending on tone. Silver auras, for instance, meditate more efficiently.
𓂃 ࣪˖ ִֶָꪆৎ environmental ties: some users regenerate faster in elemental environments. a Water user near a river may regenerate faster.
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ accelerated methods: ꪆৎ 𓂃 › magical potions or healing spells (rare and expensive) ꪆৎ 𓂃 › aura-linked mana siphoning from others (only some colors like black, gold, or amber can do this ethically) ꪆৎ 𓂃 › some users can tap into "Reserve Mana": 10% hidden pool accessible only under stress or emotional surges ꪆৎ 𓂃 › overuse can damage mana pathways and lead to chronic burnout
*ೃ༄physical drain
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ using more than 70% of one’s mana pool begins to manifest bodily side effects: ꪆৎ 𓂃 › fatigue, dizziness, nosebleeds, shaking hands, slowed thought processes. ꪆৎ 𓂃 › continued usage leads to muscle fatigue, heart stress, or fainting ꪆৎ 𓂃 › some tone variants like Darker can handle these effects more gracefully.
*ೃ༄overcast penalty
using magic at >100% mana (overcast) forcibly pulls energy from muscle and nerve systems.
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ results include: ꪆৎ 𓂃 › blackouts, seizures, coma, and in rare cases, permanent aura fractures (rendering magic inaccessible or unstable). ꪆৎ 𓂃 › unconsciousness or temporary paralysis ꪆৎ 𓂃 › potential "mana scars"—long-term damage to aura flow ꪆৎ 𓂃 › locked magic (cooldown ranges from hours to days) ꪆৎ 𓂃 › only elite or highly trained casters (often tri-aura users or white/silver elites) can intentionally dip into overcast range without immediate collapse.
overcast use leaves a visible "scorch" in the user's aura, detectable by trained mages for up to 24 hours.
*ೃ༄mana density
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ heavier spells cost exponentially more ꪆৎ 𓂃 › tier I: small utility (lights, detection) – low cost ꪆৎ 𓂃 › tier II: combat-ready (barriers, fireballs) – moderate ꪆৎ 𓂃 › tier III: large-scale manipulation (teleport, weather, mind break) – high to extreme ꪆৎ 𓂃 › tier IV+: forbidden/legendary scale spells – unique to rare auras or artifacts
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
✧˖*°࿐aura visibility
*ೃ༄visible spectrum
non-magic users see a faint shimmer or colored haze in strong emotional moments or high-casting situations.
magic users with basic training can perceive the aura’s main color.
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ advanced users can detect: ꪆৎ 𓂃 › tone (metallic, iridescent, etc.) ꪆৎ 𓂃 › subshade ꪆৎ 𓂃 › general mana fullness
*ೃ༄trained sight
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ individuals with insight-based abilities (indigo, silver, purple) or advanced schooling can read: ꪆৎ 𓂃 › mana stability ꪆৎ 𓂃 › elemental alignment ꪆৎ 𓂃 › recent overcast use ꪆৎ 𓂃 › aura fusion or damage
specialized devices in schools or combat teams can scan and report aura stats instantly (mana % / tone / color index).
*ೃ༄aura suppression
advanced users can learn to suppress their aura, rendering them invisible to magical detection.
full suppression is extremely taxing and requires constant micro-mana output.
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ long-term suppression can cause: ꪆৎ 𓂃 › internal mana turbulence (like a magic pressure cooker) ꪆৎ 𓂃 › higher overcast risk when reactivating
black and indigo users tend to learn suppression faster than others due to affinity with stealth and aura control.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
✧˖*°࿐multi-aura mechanics
*ೃ༄dual auras (approx. 5%)
possess two independent aura types, typically of complementary elements (e.g., Fire + Wind or Water + Ice).
cannot use both simultaneously without suffering mana dissonance—violent internal energy rejection.
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ must switch manually between aura states. ꪆৎ 𓂃 › switch time: 10–30 seconds under focus.
𓂃 ࣪˖ ִֶָꪆৎ cooldown: must stay in an aura state for at least 5 minutes before re-switching.
*ೃ༄tri auras (approx. 0.5%)
possess three complete aura profiles—each with a tone, affinity, and mana behavior.
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ switching is mentally taxing and slower: ꪆৎ 𓂃 › switch time: 1–3 minutes, depending on mental focus and mana stability. ꪆৎ 𓂃 › cooldown: must maintain auras for 10+ minutes.
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ tri aura users are typically: ꪆৎ 𓂃 › elite-level individuals ꪆৎ 𓂃 › descendants of rare-lineage bloodlines ꪆৎ 𓂃 › chosen in metaphysical or unknown ways (e.g., born during an aura storm, soul rebirth, etc.)
improper switching causes "split casting", leading to uncontrolled results (e.g., lightning made of poison).
*ೃ༄fusion techniques (advanced)
დ࿐ ‎˗ˋ some highly trained dual/tri aura users develop hybrid casting styles: ꪆৎ 𓂃 › e.g., fire + gravity = flame bombs that anchor enemies to the floor. ꪆৎ 𓂃 › these are rare, dangerous, and require a high resonance threshold to perform without shattering aura balance.
fusion can only be used once the caster passes a synchronization trial—a metaphysical rite conducted in specialized environments (often school graduation capstones).

Mission: Make the new agent resign cap 2!
[Field Testing Chamber — 2:21 p.m.]
Robotnik (Experiment Note #10)
Objective: Induce voluntary resignation in Subject Stone without direct violence, so Walters doesn’t reduce my funding.
Method: Lock subject inside electrified cage before lunchtime. No comforts, no positive stimulation. Planned isolation to provoke psychological discomfort.
Preliminary result: Subject exhibits reverse reaction: mild enthusiasm, ironic tone. Further data required.
Robotnik didn’t even turn when the rear gate closed behind Stone with a metallic CLANK! —final, sharp, like a hammer on a coffin.
"Is this... a cell?" Stone asked, eyeing the electrified walls around him.
"Oh! How did that happen?" Robotnik said from the central console, not bothering to hide his smug grin.
"An accident?"
"Totally random. Systems glitch sometimes." Robotnik pressed a button without looking away from his screen. Instantly, a set of colorful lasers began spinning in spirals around Stone, projecting symmetrical figures like a sinister disco choreography.
Stone slowly turned in place. The colors danced on his face like stained glass in a pagan chapel.
He didn’t look alarmed.
In fact… he looked entertained.
"This is the most exciting thing that’s happened to me in weeks," he said calmly.
"...What?"
"You locked me in your private lab. With lights and everything. Are you trying to impress me?"
"I’m trying to psychologically torture you into quitting!"
"…It’s lovely."
"IT IS NOT!"
Robotnik slammed his console so hard a bolt flew off, clinking against the floor like a metallic giggle. He stormed over to the cage, his coat billowing like a restrained thunderstorm, and pointed at Stone with a trembling finger full of indignation.
"WHO just stands there smiling when they’re trapped in a cage with the electromagnetic field activated!?"
"And who designs cages with this kind of oddly specific ambience?" Stone smiled and leaned forward slightly, not quite touching the bars. His voice lowered — smooth and deep.
"Doctor… do you want me to stay?"
Robotnik choked on his own fury.
"NO! I want you to quit, to scream, to tell Walters I’m a public menace and you’re being forced to work with a lunatic!"
"Mmm… how about I tell him you’re a brilliant, passionate man, and your lab has excellent acoustics?"
Robotnik clenched his jaw and spun on his heel.
"Three more hours in that cage. Then I want you gone!"
"Is that a metaphor…?"
"NO!"
"Perfect."
Experiment Note #10 — Robotnik
Emotional state: Exhausted. Confused. Tired of not being feared.
Resignation induction method: Electrified cage before lunch, ambient isolation, dissonant laser stimulation.
Result: Subject displays relaxed demeanor. Apparent stress level: low. Enthusiasm level: moderately elevated.
Observation: Subject interprets hostile actions as affection. Possible cognitive reconfiguration due to prolonged exposure to lab environment. Emotional cross-conditioning? Affective mirage? Impenetrable stupidity?
Next step: Redesign protocol. Remove any variables that could be interpreted as 'romantic' (?!).
Excerpt from Stone’s personal diary
«A cell designed just for me? A time limit? Lights spinning around me while the Doctor watches from his console? I’m trapped in his attention.»

just did 90m of painting work over 3 hours that was (1) mentally demanding (2) that did not pay off. I have nothing concrete to show for it.
today's work was prefaced by 90m of prep last night: looking my long and short term goals, identifying bottlenecks, and designing exercises to widen those bottlenecks (which I executed on today). so if you count that it's 3h of work
interestingly: after today's work, my mind was unusually, legibly split on whether that was a waste of time (prediction: feel bad) or a good use of time (prediction: feel good). and the fact that it felt like a choice – or at least indeterminate in a way I could somewhat influence – suggested to me that finding experimentation (regardless of outcome) worthwhile is a skill?
(in 2021 I stumbled into enjoying the mild-moderate fear of social risk-taking, which led to running a lot of events, which had noticeably positive effects on my social life and popularity. seems like a similar type of meta-skill – something that leads you to find skill development more attractive)
if I may be corny and quote this book review on The Education of Cyrus [the Great]:
Of all Cyrus’s many qualities: willpower, strength, charisma, glibness, intelligence, handsomeness; Xenophon makes a point of emphasizing one in particular, and his choice might strike some readers as strange. It is this: “He did not run from being defeated into the refuge of not doing that in which he had been defeated.” Cyrus learned to love the feeling of failure, because failure means you’re facing a worthy challenge, failure means you haven’t set your sights too low, … He doesn’t flee failure, he seeks it out, hungers for it, rushes towards it again and again, becoming a little scarier every time. He’s found a cognitive meta-tool, one of those secrets of the universe which, if you can actually internalize them, make you better at everything. Failure feels good to him rather than bad
fine, okay, let's lean into feeling good about today's failure and hope it updates my personality 0.01%:
that was cool! it wasn't cool to get frustrated and have to stop at one of the stages, but I have concrete ideas on how to tweak the instructions for tomorrow's run. Even if I abandon conscious directed improvement for a year, writing down what did and didn't work will help future me design better experiments / workflows. I have, in fact, built something that'll last
also, I have a spreadsheet where I log three variables and a generated column that uses those variables to spit out a "score for the day". how much I did and how hard it was have a multiplicative effect on that score, and that was pretty hard, so I'm going to get a Gold Star from My Google Sheets Function for having done this
also also, I have the slightest kernel of the desire to paint ("just not like that dear god I'm not doing that again") which I don't think was there before I forced myself to do a hard and unpleasant painting run
■ Yay

Hey, I'm sure you get asked this all the time, but I've been writing my entire life, and while I've self-published some novels with moderate success, the content is not something I'm interested in sharing with future employers (unless it's Heart's Choice). I have a very stable day job in a different industry, but *really* want to break into professional writing, specifically interactive fiction, visual novels and TTRPGs. Could you recommend some good ways to start building pro experience?
Hello, thank you so much for your ask!
Sadly the field is in a very bad place at the moment, thanks to tech companies jumping on LLM trains, investor monopolies, and focusing on Number Go Up Forever rather than sustainability. There are very few junior roles around especially if writers don't already have professional experience in games, each one gets huge numbers of applications, and I constantly hear from friends who have applied to a position only for, partway through the process, it to be made redundant, the project to be cancelled, or even the studio to be closed. Things have changed a lot for the worse since I was first applying for things years years ago, and it's hard to see when and how it'll improve.
That said!
As you've self-published books before, you'll likely be at an advantage for writing interactive fiction has a lot of crossover with skills, especially with prose-type games like the ones published by Choice of Games/Hosted Games/Heart's Choice. If you're interested in getting into selling your interactive fiction, I'd recommend trying out tools like ChoiceScript and Twine and making some smaller pieces to get to grips with branching and variables.
Publishing with Choice of Games/Hosted Games/Heart's Choice is the most reliable way of making money from interactive fiction that I've seen; you can also self-publish entirely (using Twine, ink, or whatever other coding language) on itchio or Steam. Some people self-publish interactive fiction on Patreon which, for a small number of writers, can be very lucrative but you'd want to make sure to share some of your work publicly as well so that people can get excited about it. For better or worse, Patreon monetisation often focuses on things other than completing a project, such as short stories about characters or alternative versions of scenes; this might or might not be your thing. (The ChoiceScript licence also requires you to make ChoiceScript material after a month at most so do be aware of that.)
Every so often (less often these days due to aforementioned industry crisis) mobile companies are founded, offering platforms for monetisable IF/visual novel-ish mobile games; unfortunately they don't often stay around for long, and/or they often get bought out by LLM companies. One that's lasted longer than others is Dorian, but I've not worked with them so can't speak to how good they are to make games with; I've heard a few things both positive and negative so it's worth doing your homework and contacting people who've worked with them if you're interested.
For ChoiceScript, CoG and Heart's Choice offer an advance and editing, plus royalties, with a house style and (very flexible) deadlines; Hosted Games allows fuller freedom but there's no editing or advance. Lots of people get a lot out of both. As you've published your writing before, it's worth applying to CoG or HC if that's the direction you'd like to go in.
In general, joining game jams or comps is a good way of honing your skills. You could do this solo or join a group. Either way, it will develop your skills and give you something to put into a portfolio. There are various themed interactive fiction game jams on itch.io - I'd recommend following @/neointeractives and @/interact-if as they often share information when they come up.
I'm sorry that I can't give more concrete advice - at the moment it boils down to "make some interactive work that you're proud of", I think, and certainly keep the stable job going while you do it. It's a tough time all round, unfortunately.
If you or anyone reading is interested in applying to write for Choice of Games or Heart's Choice, is working on an outline for them, or is contracted with them, and has any questions or would like any info or advice about the process- feel free to drop me an ask, email, or message. I've been doing this for a long time and have gone through the pitch/outline process seven times now, so I know my way around it pretty well!
Best of luck with your interactive writing!

Time for another dive into the code! This time we're doing Warm, Moderate, and Cold Cove again, but for the transition between Step 2 to 3 instead of 1 to 2.
As a refresher to those who might not remember the original post talking about how it works from Step 1 to 2:
When making certain decisions in how you interact with Cove, the game will give you either warm points or cold points. These points are calculated at the end of the step to determine whether your Cove in the following Step will be warm, moderate, or cold. If you have more cold than warm points, the game will only use the cold ones, and same for having more warm than cold points. The points not used are essentially "thrown away."
A "warm" Cove is friendlier to others and cracks more jokes, a "moderate" Cove is closest to his Step 1 self, and a "cold" Cove is quieter and more blunt. They all interact with the MC similarly, except a warm Cove is more likely to tease the MC and not be as dependent while a cold Cove is more likely to side with/cling to them. His relationships with others will still be similar regardless of whether he's "warm," "moderate," or "cold," but how he expresses himself in those relationships may be different.
The warm-to-cold variation is a spectrum that goes from Warm, Warm-Moderate, Moderate, Cold-Moderate, and Cold. There is no Warm Cove who will do Cold Cove things and vice versa. With Warm-Moderate and Cold-Moderate, the idea is that you have a mostly Warm/Cold Cove respectively but with some mild variation.
There is a variable for "moderate" points in the game's code, but it goes unused in the game itself, meaning that a moderate Cove is more of a "default." If you were to go from the start of Step 1 and immediately to the end without doing any moments, that would be the best way of getting a "moderate" Cove. Engaging in moments is more likely to make your Cove warm/cold, so if you've played the game a lot and always go through a lot of moments without using the Cove Creator to change his personality, you could get a Moderate Cove for a potentially different experience.
In terms of the rules on how to get a warm/cold Cove, it varies. If the MC calls Cove out, teases him, includes/talks about other people, and encourages Cove to be more outgoing or do new things, he's more likely to be warm. Taking Cove's side, being protective of him, speaking up for him rather than letting him do it himself, and keeping things between him and the MC is more likely to make him cold. It's not a one-size-fits-all situation though, as a shy MC could make Cove warm because he's being encouraged to defend you whereas leaving Cove all by himself could make him cold.
Regardless of whether he's Warm, Moderate, or Cold, Cove will remain a sentimental introvert who gets flustered over romance.
Cove's appearance has nothing to do with whether he's warm/moderate/cold barring the rare cases where a choice might happen to overlap with it.
In terms of new information from Step 2 to 3 specifically, I'll say right away that whether your Step 2 Cove is already warm, moderate, or cold doesn't matter nor factor into how your Step 3 Cove turns out. All that matters is how you treat him in Step 2.
In addition, the point calculation works differently. In Step 1, having no more than 11 points in either Cold or Warm will give a Moderate Cove, having 12-19 points in either Cold or Warm will give a Cold-Moderate/Warm-Moderate Cove (depending on which you have more points in), and having 20 or more points will give a fully Cold/Warm Cove.
Also, if your points are tied, the game would "flip a coin" to decide whether it will opt for the cold or warm points.
However, Step 3 has more variation (well, not technically, but we'll talk about that later), first by making it even harder to get a Moderate Cove.
You only need 5 or more points in either warm/cold points to be locked out of a fully Moderate Cove (as a fully Moderate Cove would be 0-4 points). 5-9 will get you a slightly warm/cold Cove (we'll call this Moderate-Warm and Moderate-Cold for convenience), 10-14 or 15-19 (the game does two checks for this for some reason) will get you a Warm-Moderate or Cold-Moderate Cove, and having 20 or more will get you a fully Warm/Cold Cove as before.
In the case of a tie in points, the game will not do a "coin flip" anymore and will instead default to cold points.
One odd thing I will note (this wasn't relevant in the original post where I talked about Step 1->2) is that the Cove Creator actually sets some default cold/warm points as you pick the various buttons for Cove's personality.
The button on Warm gives 20 warm points and 10 cold points (again, these cold points are "thrown away" because the game only cares about what you have more of), the button between Warm and Moderate gives 12 warm points and 6 cold points, the button on Moderate gives 6 warm points and 6 cold points, the button between Moderate and Cold gives 6 warm points and 12 cold points, and the button on Cold gives 10 warm points and 20 cold points. These are the same points applied in any step where you can use the Cove Creator to change Cove's personality.
Now, did you catch something there?
Due to how Step 3 changed how few points are needed to lock you out of Moderate Cove (only 5 or more), it's actually impossible to get a fully Moderate Cove using the Cove Creator to change his personality. It will give you 6 warm points and 6 cold points, which will default to the 6 cold points due to the "coin flip" removal, thus giving you a Moderate-Cold Cove.
You can actually test this yourself if you have a save at the Step 3 Cove Creator. Set Cove's personality to "Moderate" and skim through the intro narration until it starts talking about Cove's family, right here:
Cove's relationships with his family improved over the years. Kyra visited several times after that summer, and things became easier between the two.
He was also closer with his dad than ever before. You knew they talked more, and that helped prevent a lot of friction before it could start.
If you had a fully Moderate Cove, you would get one of two follow-up narrations depending on if your Step 2 Cove was warm/warm-moderate/cold-moderate/cold or fully moderate.
if Warm/Warm-Moderate/Cold-Moderate/Cold in Step 2:
Cove's personality, however, drifted back to how it was in the past. He was pretty blunt and not overly social, but he had plenty to say when he felt like it.
if Moderate in Step 2:
Cove's personality, however, was recognizable from the past. He was pretty blunt and not overly social, but he had plenty to say when he felt like it.
You won't get this narration if you chose Moderate from the Cove Creator. Instead, you would get one of these:
if Warm/Warm-Moderate/Moderate in Step 2:
However, Cove grew into someone no one would call 'social'. He kept to himself, usually. He cared for the few connections he did have, but didn't reach outside them.
if Cold-Moderate/Cold in Step 2:
However, Cove still wasn't what anyone could call 'social'. He kept to himself, usually. He cared for the few connections he did have, but didn't reach outside them.
I actually checked just to make absolutely certain that I was on the latest version of Our Life (1.7.1) and I am. It seems that in the process of trying to give more variation to Cove's personality (or just making Moderate more unlikely), the Cove Creator was left out of the equation. I'd be curious to know if this happens on older versions.
Further puzzling is that I was going to list multiple examples to show the difference between Warm/Warm-Moderate/Moderate-Warm and Moderate-Cold/Cold-Moderate/Cold (similar to what I did in the last post for Step 2 Cove), but the thing is that I could not find any.
I searched and scanned through the code in an attempt to call upon any instance where it would check for a Warm-Moderate/Moderate-Warm or Moderate-Cold/Cold-Moderate Cove specifically, and in every case the game considered them to be fully Warm and fully Cold respectively.
In other words, whereas in Step 2 you had Warm, Warm-Moderate, Moderate, Cold-Moderate, and Cold Cove, Step 3 seems to stick to a strict Warm/Moderate/Cold Cove with no in-betweens. If anyone has any evidence to the contrary then by all means, message/toss me an ask, but I couldn't find anything to suggest otherwise.
This also makes Moderate Cove the hardest to get since you would need to actually achieve it in-game by avoiding warm/cold points as much as possible. Even just going through the Step 2 intro and ending only, I don't even think you could avoid being locked out of Moderate Cove if you're playing on Fond/Crush.
Getting back to the topic of choices though, here are the options themselves that'll give you warm/cold points throughout Step 2:
Step 2 Intro
After Cove comes by to deliver the fruit bouquet (Fond/Crush only):
"Thank you!" [warm +1]
"Thanks." [warm +1]
"You are too cute sometimes." [cold +1]
When Jeremy is complaining about his parents:
You kept quiet. [cold +1]
"You shouldn't talk about your parents like that." [warm +1]
"Sorry. It must suck being forced to do something you don't want." [warm +1]
"We just said hello. You don't have to keep complaining at us." [cold +1]
"Calm down. You don't have to yell so much." [cold +1]
"Who peed in your cereal this morning?" [warm +1]
When Jeremy mocks Cove's eyebrows:
"What?" [no change]
"No! Cove's wavy eyebrows are so cool!" [warm +1]
"How can you say that when you've got a bowl cut?" [warm +1]
"Don't listen to him. They're really unique and special." [cold +1]
"Well, they are kind of silly." [warm +1]
"Apologize to Cove right now. You can't treat people like that." [cold +1]
(immediately following above choice):
You just rolled your eyes. [warm +1]
You crossed your arms over your chest. [cold +1]
You shook your head. [warm +1]
You patted Cove on the shoulder. [cold +1]
You lunged towards Jeremy! [no change]
You grinned at all of this. [warm +1]
When Derek points out the fruit bouquet once Jeremy is gone:
"I need to save it." [cold +1]
"Why not? Let's eat." [warm +1] {note that the skewers will change Step 3 Cove's left wristwear: pineapple or strawberry will take it off, grape will give him the black wristband, and melon will give him the chain bracelet and beaded wrap bracelet with the jewel}
When Elizabeth shows up to confront the MC over the fruit bouquet (if the MC chose to eat it with Derek and Cove):
"Sorry, Elizabeth..." [warm +1]
"Get over it." [warm +1]
"Well, the morning's been kind of a disaster!" [cold +1]
"We were hungry?" [cold +1]
"It wasn't us. A seagull came down and ate it all while we weren't looking!" [warm +1]
When Derek and Cove try to make an escape from Elizabeth:
You ran! [cold +1]
You stayed. [warm +1]
After Cove sneaks into the MC's room (Fond/Crush only):
"What are you doing?" [warm +1]
"What's up, Romeo?" [warm +1]
"This sure is a surprise, but you're always welcome here." [cold +1]
"Is everything okay? What happened?" [cold +1]
"You're lucky I didn't start screaming." [cold +1]
"Amazing. My dreams have come true." [warm +1]
(following above scene) When Cove vents about being upset over his situation with his parents:
"There's nothing wrong with feeling bad. That is hard to deal with." [cold +1]
"We can deal with this." [warm +1]
"I'm sorry, Cove. You know I'm here for you." [warm +1]
"Yeah, that's... a lot." [cold +1]
You didn't know what to say. [warm +1]
(following above scene) After Cove asks if he can stay longer in MC's room:
"You can stay tonight, but we shouldn't make a habit of this." [warm +1]
"I've got a flashlight and some cards. Are you in?" [warm +1]
"Of course. You can always stay here, Cove." [cold +1]
(following above scene) When the MC realizes that Cove has stayed the night in their room:
"Cove!" [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
○ You laughed quietly. [warm +1]
○ You laughed loudly. [cold +1]
○ "Are you okay?" [warm +1]
○ You helped him up. [cold +1]
○ "Shhh! My moms are gonna hear us." [warm +1]
You laughed out loud. [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
○ You laughed even more. [cold +1]
○ "Are you okay?" [warm +1]
○ You helped him up. [cold +1]
○ "Shhh! My moms are gonna hear us." [warm +1]
You jumped out of bed. {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
○ You whispered in his ear. [cold +1]
○ You shook his shoulder. [warm +1]
○ You poked him in the face.
○ You tugged at his hair.
○ You threw a pillow at him.
You froze. {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
○ You whispered in his ear. [cold +1]
○ You shook his shoulder. [warm +1]
○ You poked him in the face. [no change]
○ You tugged at his hair. [no change]
○ You threw a pillow at him. [no change]
(following above scene) After Cove realizes that he'd fallen asleep and tries (fails) to calm down:
"It's going to be alright." [warm +1]
"We're going to be in so much trouble!" [cold +1]
"Just calm down." [warm +1]
"Settle down, before moms hear you." [cold +1]
You didn't say anything. [warm +1]
(following above scene) As Cove is trying to sneak out back to his house:
You wished him luck. [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
You rallied him to keep going. [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
You suggested he sneak out the door instead. {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
You urged him to hurry up. {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
When Kyra asks the MC if they have any restaurant recommendations:
You shrugged. [cold +1] {note that this will give Step 3 Cove the spiky hair}
"Not really." [warm +1] {note that this will give Step 3 Cove the middle-parted hair}
"Sure, I have a couple of favorites." [no change]
You nodded. [no change]
When Cove is sulking near the end of the outing with Kyra:
You made a silly face at him. [warm +1]
You smiled at him. [cold +1]
You gave him a sympathetic look. [cold +1]
You flicked his straw wrapper at him. [warm +1]
You left him alone. [cold +1]
Wave
Fond/Crush routes only
When Cove asks the MC if they want to come down to the beach:
"Sure! I'll meet you there when we're done." [cold +1]
"Oh- yeah, I could do that..." [cold +1]
"Alright." [warm +1]
"I can't this time." [warm +1]
After MC meets with Cove on the beach:
"I wouldn't have missed it." [cold +1]
"Sorry you had to wait." [warm +1]
"And stay inside all day? I don't think so." [warm +1]
If the MC brought a board with them to the beach:
"Cove, I'm not that good at surfing." [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"I borrowed this board, but I don't know how to surf..." (if the MC is inexperienced at surfing) [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
"I'm ready to get in there." [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"Wanna have a competition?" (if the MC is experienced at surfing) [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"Will you give me some tips?" [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
If the MC didn't bring a board with them to the beach:
{note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"What am I supposed to do while you surf?" [cold +1]
"I'll stay here and watch you surf." [warm +1]
"I'm going to find something to do while you surf." [cold +1]
After Cove jokes about clothespins if the MC went surfing with him (not for competition) and got into a splash fight with him:
"That was terrible on any scale." [warm +1]
"Please don't." [warm +1]
"You're adorable." [cold +1]
"I'm not sure that even counts as a pun." [cold +1]
"I love it." [warm +1]
If the MC chose to stay on shore and watch Cove surf:
You continued to watch quietly. [warm +1]
You started cheering him on after a really cool wave. [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
You shouted at him to remember to pace himself. [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
You did an impression of a sports announcer. {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
You made a silly face when he looked back at you. [cold +1]
(following above choice) After Cove checks on the MC:
"I've found ways to entertain myself." [cold +1]
"It's been fun." [warm +1]
"Eh, I'm just a little bored." [cold +1]
"This was totally radical, dude." [warm +1]
"I couldn't take my eyes off of you." (if Crush) [cold +1]
(following above choice) When Cove tells the MC that he likes them being there:
You teased him. [warm +1]
You smiled. [cold +1]
You looked away. [cold +1]
When Cove imitates Jeremy (if the MC chose to go with him to the park):
"Ha ha." [warm +1]
"Don't scare me like that! One Jeremy is enough." [cold +1]
"That's not really nice. Funny, but not nice." [warm +1]
"You don't have to tease him." [warm +1]
"Ugh, parents don't know anything." [cold +1]
(following above) After the conversation with Cove starts winding down:
"We better get home." [warm +1]
"I wish days were longer." [cold +1]
You chose not to say anything. [warm +1]
Growing
When the MC greets Cove when he arrives at their house (Fond/Crush only):
With a wave. [cold +1]
With a low five. [warm +1]
With a nudge to the shoulder. [cold +1]
With a noogie. [warm +1]
With a hug. [cold +1]
After Cove explains why he's come over (Fond/Crush only):
You thought that was really sweet. [warm +1]
"How'd you know I was doing nothing? Maybe I had plans." [warm +1]
You nodded. That made sense to you. [cold +1]
"I was thinking the exact same thing." [warm +1]
When Cove admits that he hasn't eaten: (Fond/Crush only):
"Yeah, I get like that sometimes too." [no change]
"You should really eat properly." [no change]
"You didn't eat at all? Then you gotta have something now!" [cold +1]
"Great! We can eat lunch together." [warm +1]
During the second pause of tic-tac-toe or hangman when Cove complains about feeling stuck to the floor:
"I'll have to charge you rent then." [warm +1]
"You can be my new roomie if you want." [cold +1]
"Looks like we'll both be stuck here forever then. I'm sticky too." [warm +1]
"No way. I'll peel you off if I have to." [cold +1]
You just smiled at his whining. [cold +1]
During the third pause of tic-tac-toe or hangman when Cove wonders where the game's name came from:
"Maybe they named it that because people played it with tics and tacks."/'"Maybe it's what they had instead of real court trials back then." [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"I've always wondered about that..." [warm +1]
"I'll have to look it up later." [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
"It's a really old game. No one's sure where the name came from." [cold +1]
After the MC played tic-tac-toe with Cove (Indifferent/Fond):
You laughed along with Cove. [warm +1]
"Well, you should've taken the challenge more seriously." [warm +1]
"You're the one who wanted to play in the first place." [cold +1]
"I'm still the winner and you're the loser!" (if the MC won) [warm +1]
"I let you win, actually." (if Cove won) [cold +1]
You shook your head at him. [cold +1]
After the MC's initial reaction to Cove's hangman phrase (Crush only):
You didn't say anything. [cold +1]
"No, you're cute!" [cold +1]
"...Thank you." [cold +1]
"I can't believe you!" [warm +1]
"Damn, Cove." [warm +1]
You just let out a small squeak. [warm +1]
(following above choice):
"I really think you're cute. Seriously." [warm +1]
"Did you mean it? Do you really think I'm cute?" [cold +1]
You didn't say anything. [warm +1]
After Cove talks about how he thinks their talk about romance has been good (Fond/Crush only):
"I think so too." [cold +1]
You shrugged. [cold +1]
"It was awkward." [cold +1]
"The conversation had a mind of its own." [warm +1]
You just nodded quietly. [warm +1]
After Cove comments that he loves it out on the poppy hill (Fond/Crush only):
"I do too." [no change]
"You do? That's surprising," you said jokingly. [warm +1]
"Your opinion sure has changed since you were first on this hill." [warm +1]
You quietly enjoyed the moment. [cold +1]
After Cove says that he's glad to have met the MC (Fond/Crush only):
You blushed at the statement. [warm +1]
"I feel the same." [warm +1]
"That's so nice of you to say." [warm +1]
You smiled silently. [cold +1]
"You're being too sweet!" [cold +1]
"You're special to me, Cove." [cold +1]
Family
After Cove comes into the home and notes the awkwardness (if the MC stayed with their moms):
You laughed. [warm +1]
You wiped your eyes. [warm +1]
You smiled at him. [cold +1]
You shook your head in answer. [cold +1]
When the MC can talk to Cove about what happened, if the MC stayed with their moms (Fond/Crush only):
"There's a lot going on right now." [warm +1]
"It's nothing..." [cold +1]
You didn't speak to him. [cold +1]
"I needed to talk to you." (if the MC visited Cove) [warm +1]
"Thank you for coming... I'm glad you're here." (if the MC went to their room or outside) [cold +1]
"My parents are dead!" (if the MC asked about their adoption story) [warm +1]
(following after above choice)
"You don't have to do this." [cold +1]
"I'm okay..." [warm +1]
You closed the distance and hugged him." (only if Cove did not hug the MC; this happens if the MC doesn't have enough "touch points") [no change]
You started to cry. [warm +1]
You took a step back from him. [cold +1]
If the MC is participating in Lee's idea and Cove comments on it (Fond/Crush only):
"Thanks." [warm +1]
"I was pretty good, huh?" [warm +1]
You blushed and said nothing. [cold +1]
"Luckily we had a crowd who's easily impressed." [cold +1]
Dinner
When Cove asks the MC the first time if they want to come over for dinner:
"Yeah, I'll go." [cold +1]
"I can't." [no change]
You kept listening. [warm +1]
When Cove asks the MC the second time if they want to come over for dinner:
"Yeah, I can come." [warm +1]
"I'll have to ask my moms and get back to you." [cold +1]
"No, I can't make it."
○ "Sorry." [no change]
○ "Alright, I'll go." [cold +1]
"Why am I the only one invited? Or did you mean the whole family?"
○ "I can't. Sorry." [warm +1]
○ "Alright, I'll go." [warm +1]
After the MC looks around Cove's room (only if they haven't been in Cove's room before):
"Are you trying to make your own beach with all this sand?" [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"It's nice." [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
"Thanks for letting me come over." [warm +1]
You weren't sure what to do. [cold +1]
When the MC chooses where to sit/not to sit and Cove raises his eyebrows at them (Crush only):
You were nervous about that. [warm +1]
You smiled comfortingly at him. [cold +1]
You chuckled over it. [warm +1]
You felt very charmed by his reaction. [cold +1]
(following immediately after above choice):
You only shrugged back. [warm +1]
"It's nothing. Don't worry about it." [cold +1]
"You're like an open book, you know that?" [cold +1]
"You're such a sweet guy, Cove." [warm +1]
"You're adorable!" [cold +1]
When Cove asks if the MC wants to name a fish (Fond/Crush only):
"Yeah, I do!" [warm +1]
"Can I?" [cold +1]
"No thanks." {note that this will give Cove the thin rectangular blue glasses}
When the MC has the opportunity to ask if they can name a fish (Indifferent only):
"Can I name a fish?" [warm +1]
You kept quiet. [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove the thin rectangular blue glasses}
When Cove comments on how it seems unfair that the MC can't have pets at their house:
"Right? My moms can be strict over the weirdest things sometimes!" [warm +1]
"I don't mind it too much." [no change]
"I get it." [cold +1]
After Cove talks about how humiliating the deal was for him (if MC told Cove about the deal in Step 1):
"I'm really sorry about what happened, Cove." [cold +1]
"Then I'm sorry, since I'm gonna bring it up forever." [cold +1]
"Yeah, I get why that'd be embarrassing." [warm +1]
You laughed. [warm +1]
You stayed quiet. [no change]
if the MC has either told Cove about the deal in Sandcastle or did not bring up the deal now in Dinner
When the MC is given the opportunity to question Cove on why they're there:
"Is there a reason they wanted me to come over tonight?" [warm +1]
You kept quiet. [no change]
After Mr. Holden thanks the MC for coming:
You thanked Cove's parents back for inviting you. [no change]
You didn't say anything to that. [no change]
You just felt awkward about the situation. [cold +1]
When there's a lull in conversation during dinner:
You brought up your own topic of conversation. [cold +1]
You left coming up with a conversation topic to them. [warm +1]
After Cove is denied having an immediate sleepover with the MC (Fond/Crush only):
You gave him some words of encouragement. [cold +1]
You patted him on the back. [cold +1]
"Pst, I'll sneak the phone into my room tonight." [warm +1]
"Hey, you could always sneak into my room again." [warm +1]
You pouted about it too. [cold +1]
if the MC chose to tell Cove about the deal here in Dinner instead of anything else
After Cove storms out of the room:
You immediately followed after Cove. [cold +1]
You just stood there. [warm +1]
After Cove and the MC head to the MC's living room:
"Are you okay?" [warm +1]
"What do you want to do now?" [warm +1]
"I'm really sorry Cove." [cold +1]
"You did the right thing by leaving." [cold +1]
"Do you want to be doing this?" [cold +1]
You said nothing. [warm +1]
After the MC listens to Cove vent about his dad's behavior:
You continued to listen quietly. [warm +1]
"I'm sorry you have to deal with all that." [warm +1]
"You're right, that's terrible." [cold +1]
"It could be worse." [cold +1]
"Even if it didn't go well, your dad's only trying to make you happy." [cold +1]
When Cove laments the idea that he might not've been friends with the MC due to his dad (Fond/Crush only):
You stepped forward and rested a hand on his shoulder. [cold +1]
You hugged him. [warm +1]
You smiled reassuringly. [warm +1]
You wiped his tears. [cold +1]
(following immediately after above choice):
"I'm really glad we got to be friends." [warm +1]
"Please don't cry." [warm +1]
"Hey, don't worry about it. Alright?" [warm +1]
You didn't need to say anything. [cold +1]
"I wouldn't have let anything your dad -or anyone else- did mess things up." [cold +1]
After Cove insults his dad's inability to make people happy:
"I'm really sorry." [cold +1]
"You don't actually mean what you're saying." [cold +1]
"Do you hate your dad?" [warm +1]
"I'm here for you." (Fond/Crush only) [cold +1]
You felt bad that things were so hard for Cove and his dad. [warm +1]
You didn't say anything. [cold +1]
(following after above choice):
"What about your fish?" [cold +1]
"I remember that day, when it happened." [warm +1]
(following after above choice):
"Your dad still needs to stop being so forceful, though." [cold +1]
"You might feel better than you do if you tried to make up with your dad." [warm +1]
"You guys really need to learn how to communicate." [warm +1]
"I'll be on your side no matter what you do about your dad." (Fond/Crush only) [cold +1]
You stayed quiet. [no change]
When the MC is deciding what they can do for Cove to help him:
"Do you want me to turn the TV on?" [cold +1]
"Do you want something to eat? Or drink?" [cold +1]
You listened to whatever he wanted to say. [warm +1]
You stayed with him silently. [warm +1]
Road Trip
After Elizabeth teases Cove and the MC about getting married:
You told her to cut it out already. [cold +1]
"Cove has a point. It wasn't a great comment." [warm +1]
"I'll marry you, Cove." [warm +1]
You ignored Elizabeth. [cold +1]
You were embarrassed. [warm +1]
"I'll marry Cove on the same day Shiloh's mom marries Cove's dad." (if the MC joked about Cove's dad marrying Shiloh's mom in Long Day) [cold +1]
When the MC takes a good look at Cove wearing a jacket (Crush only):
You averted your gaze from him entirely. [warm +1]
"Yeah, don't worry about it." [no change]
"You look good - in the jacket. That's all..." (if Nervous) [cold +1]
"That looks nice on you." (if Relaxed) [warm +1]
"You just look so good right now." (if Direct) [warm +1]
"Yeah. Everything is really good." [no change]
You nodded while saying nothing. [no change]
After Cove panics and says "Nothing!" if the MC asks what he likes seeing others wear (Fond/Crush only):
That was funny. [warm +1]
You paid it no mind. [no change]
(following above choice):
It was a topic that made him uncomfortable, so you let it go. [cold +1]
You had a little fun and that was enough. You changed the subject. [no change]
"You're not very good at these conversations, are you?" [no change]
"I swear I won't make fun of you." [warm +1]
"I just thought it would be fun to talk about..." [cold +1]
(following above choice) After Cove admits he likes seeing people wear ankle bracelets:

You complimented Derek on his politeness. [cold +1]
You joked that Derek was basically an adult. [warm +1]
You kept quiet and took a bite of food. [warm +1]
If the MC chose to go outside after Cove to the poppy hill:
"You really should go to sleep." [warm +1]
"I know how you feel." [cold +1]
"I feel good." [warm +1]
"I hope you feel better." [cold +1]
You shrugged back. [warm +1]
You nodded. [cold +1]
(following above if Cove does an action that he claims is doing what the MC does):
"You do that all the time too." [warm +1]
"So do you, Cove!" [cold +1]
You were stunned he noticed enough to take note of it. [cold +1]
"I don't do it that much." [warm +1]
Not being able to argue with his assessment, you accepted it. [warm +1]
You felt bashful about his joke. [cold +1]
After Cove climbs up to the MC's window in his wetsuit to ask if they want to go to the beach with him (Fond/Crush only):
"Always." [cold +1]
"Here we go again..." [warm +1]
"It's way too early, Cove." [warm +1]
"You're crazy." [cold +1]
"Cove. You're so cute." [warm +1]
You gave a decisive nod. [cold +1]
Hope that helps, or at least is interesting in some form~
This one was a real doozy, not just because of having more chances than in Step 1 to give Cove warm/cold points but I really thought I was going crazy with the whole Moderate situation.

Verbal Stance And Disability Pride Flags
PT: Verbal Stance And Disability Pride Flags /end PT
Nonverbal
PT: Nonverbal /end PT
Tumblr media
Nonverbal: extremely severely to profoundly struggling to verbalise intelligibly and effectively, total or nearly total inability to use verbalization to communicate reliably, inability to verbalise more than a few utterances, words, part of phrases, etc. Having nearly only non communicational, irrelevant or incomprehensible speech. Might entirely rely on AAC.
Original nonverbal flag by @pupyzu. Original post here (link).
Semiverbal
PT: Semiverbal /end PT
Tumblr media
Semiverbal: moderately to severely struggling to or being hardly able to functionally verbalise most to all of the time. This includes frequently or consistently: taking awhile to formulate verbalisation, having a restricted, limited verbalisation, etc. Only verbalising in specific circumstances, familiar situations, about familiar topics or for specific purposes, etc. Being mostly/fully able to verbalise but struggling significantly to do so, etc. Having shortened, partial, repetitive, misplaced, forgotten, garbled, incorrect, mashed-up, inintelligible, made-up verbalisation, etc. Might predominately to drastically rely on AAC.

Hemiverbalflux
PT: Hemiverbalflux /end PT
Tumblr media
Hemiverbalflux: variably struggling to verbalise, from mildly, moderately to severely. Verbalization fluctuating in intensity but always within the borders of semiverbal and demiverbal. Struggles with verbalization vary in intensity, sometimes severe, unable to form coherent verbalization or to verbalise without extreme difficulty for weeks to sometimes mild, able to verbalise well, reliably for a few days, etc. Verbalization loss vary in length, frequency, sometimes being a few times a month or week, to every day. Lasting for a few minutes or hours, to days, happening often or over long periods. Fluctuations can be random or have causes. Hemiverbal can also be used on its own as a separate term to mean bordering/being somewhere between semiverbal and demiverbal. Might regularly to mostly rely on AAC.

Demiverbal
PT: Demiverbal /end PT
Tumblr media
Demiverbal: mildly struggling to verbalise, half of the time, most of the time, to all of the time. Verbalization loss might happen anywhere from a multiple times a day, to a few times a month. Possibly for no apparent reason, a mix of reasons or a variety of reasons. May experience slight difficulty only a little of the time, half of the time, to all of the time with speaking, articulating, complex language usage, forming concepts, etc. Might mildly to regularly rely on AAC.

Verbalflux
PT: Verbalflux /end PT
Tumblr media
Verbalflux: variably struggling to verbalise. Being able to verbalise, fluctuating at any intensity, difficulty, length, frequency and at any given time. Struggles and inability to use verbalization vary in intensity, length and frequency. Fluctuations can be random or have causes and can happen often or over long periods of time. Might periodically rely on AAC.
Original verbalflux flag by @pupyzu. Original post here (link).
Choiceverbal
PT: Choiceverbal /end PT
Tumblr media
Choiceverbal: willingly not using verbalization, being able to verbalise (fullverbal, demiverbal, semiverbal, majorityverbal...), but choosing not to verbalise much or at all. Can be for any reason, including but not limited to: Being uncomfortable or disliking verbalising, being verbal-adverse, lack of understanding of social cues, etc. Might partially or entirely use intentionally AAC.
Term coined by @schizophrenicbulbasaur in this post (link). Original choiceverbal flag by @lilqu33rboi. Original post here (link).
Fullverbal
PT: Fullverbal /end PT
Tumblr media
Fullverbal: being fully able to verbalise fluently and effectively, across a wide range of contexts. Having the ability to construct complete, grammatically correct verbalization, engage in complex conversations about various topics, etc. Demonstrating good control over vocabulary, tone, speech, pace and conversational nuances, permitting to express a broad spectrum of thoughts, emotions, and ideas. Might hardly ever rely on AAC.
Original verbal flag by @pupyzu. Original post here (link).
Hyperverbal
PT: Hyperverbal /end PT
Tumblr media
Hyperverbal: being fully able to verbalise and, whether by choice or on accident, exhibiting an excessive or unusually high level of verbalization. Verbalising at length and with great detail about various topics, often dominating conversations. This can include rapid verbalization, above average verbal capacities, advanced vocabulary, logorrhea, frequent interruptions, an overwhelming amount of information shared, etc. Might have the ability to engage in discussions on multiple subjects, but communication can sometimes be overwhelming for others and may lack focus or relevance to the ongoing conversation. Might hardly ever rely on AAC.

Additional Informations
PT: Additional Informations /end PT
Verbal stances are descriptive of everyday reality, they shouldn't be used to describe verbality during brief, unusual circumstances (ex: short-lived shutdown, panic attack, aphasia, etc). Refering a small verbal loss episode as going nonverbal, refering a transient aphasia as going semiverbal, and similar misusage, is improper and incorrect. Verbality can change during a lifetime for a lot of reasons but is qualifying long-term, long lasting verbality. If verbalization fluctuates a lot, verbalflux might be used.
Plenty of terms can be used to refer to shutdowns and similar experiences. Losing words, losing speech, speech loss, speech loss episode, verbal shutdown, verbal crash...
Selective/situational mutism is often used interchangeably with shutdown, which is an incorrect usage. SM is a diagnosable anxiety disorder which causes the person an inability to speak in specific social situations, specific places, or to specific people if a certain condition is triggered.
I've made the definitions by combining multiple definitions I've seen over internet since I struggle to formulate working on my own. They aren't carved in stone, just an attempt to define those. Even though AAC usage and verbality usually coincide, it's not always the case, ence why I've putted 'might' use AAC.
It's also important to take into account that only communicative intelligible verbalisation have to be taken into account. Someone who constantly produces speech would be nonverbal if their speech isn't communicative or intelligible. For example, too fast to be comprehensible.
Most people don't make the distinction between -verbal and -speaking stances while some might make a distinction. In that particular case, -verbal would describe language ability, while -speaking would describe speech abiliy. For example, nonverbal would mean not having language whereas nonspeaking would refer to the inability to use speech to communicate. Considering that an overwhelming majority of people don't make distinctions and that terms exist to describe the verbality components distinctively, I've chosen not to do such distinctions in this post and use the broad term of verbality.
Descriptives of verbality components:
-lexic refers to the ability to use, comprehend, process language (link), while -speaking refers to the usage of speech and -vocal refers to a system's headmate verbality (link), whereas -scribal refer to the ability to produce written or typed language, whilst -communicative refers to the ability to communicate.
It's up to the individual (or close relatives when the individual isn't able to do that by themselves) to choose how they wish to identify, according to their preferences, what fits the best, what is more practical, etc. It is a personal preference.
I've made these flags since the original designs all have a solid white infinity symbol on them, which problematic since it's already a the recognised symbol for Métis (link) and also confusing since these terms aren't exclusive to neurodivergent people.

Slow is s•m•o•o•t•h, smooth is f•a•s•t
After a high stress week and a 3:30am alarm for a 6am flight yesterday, I knew it would be unwise to go heavy or do a bunch of volume in training today.
I rested yesterday and wanted to move today, so coach programmed a light one. We did moderate sets/reps and focused on quality, speed, and time under tension instead of pushing heavy weight.
A good coach will factor in the athlete’s total life stress load (not just training) and his or her ability to recover from it, and make adjustments accordingly.
Complete rest is not always the answer - sometimes it’s just a matter of modulating the programming variables.

Another study showing what we call recovery from covid may not actually be recovery. Mask up. Stop covid in its tracks.
Background: Limited data are available describing the effects of SARS-CoV-2 breakthrough infections on the plasma proteome.
Methods: PCR-positive SARS-CoV-2 patients, enrolled in a natural history study, underwent analysis of the plasma proteome. A prospective cohort of 66 unvaccinated and 24 vaccinated persons with different degrees of infection severity were evaluated acutely (within 40 days of symptom onset), and at three and ten months. Comparisons based on vaccination status alone and unsupervised hierarchical clustering were performed. A second cohort of vaccinated Omicron patients were evaluated acutely and at ten months.
Results: Acutely, unvaccinated patients manifested overexpression of proteins involved in immune and inflammatory responses, while vaccinated patients exhibited adaptive immune responses without significant inflammation. At three and ten months, only unvaccinated patients had diminished but sustained inflammatory (C3b, CCL15, IL17RE) and immune responses (DEFA5,TREM1). Both groups had underexpression of pathways essential for cellular function, signaling, and angiogenesis (AKT1, MAPK14, HSPB1) across phases. Unsupervised clustering, based on protein expression, identified four groups of patients with variable vaccination rates demonstrating that additional clinical factors influence the plasma proteome. The proteome of vaccinated Omicron patients did not differ from vaccinated pre-Omicron patients.
Conclusions: Vaccination attenuates the inflammatory response to SARS-CoV-2 infection across phases. However, at ten months after symptom onset, changes in the plasma proteome persist in both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, which may be relevant to post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 and other viral infections associated with post-acute infection syndromes.
